TAKING OF LAND

FOR SOLDIER SETTLEMENT COMPENSATION CLAIM FAILS P.A. NEW PLYMOUTH, this day. Apart from the payment of small sums admitted by the Crown, the Taranaki Land Sales Committee, in a reserved decision given at New Plymouth yesterday, ruled that John E. G. R. AngersLein had no claim to compensation arising out of the taking of land by the Crown for soldier settlement under section 51 of the Servicemen's Settlement and Land Sales Act. The case was the first of the kind heard in New Zealand. The claim, which was heard last Friday, involved sums amounting to nearly £618, and was based on losses that it was alleged would not have occurred but for the intervention of the Act. It was stated at the hearing that the owner had not accepted the price fixed by the Land Sales Committee.
