WATERSIDERS' CRICKET
AUCKLAND BEATS CANTERBURY WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Auckland, Canterbury and Wellington watersiders commenced a triangular cricket tournament In Wellington to-day. Weather delays caused a rearrangement of play on the basis of two games. Auckland played Cantex'bury to-day and won easily. To-morrow Auckland meets Wellington. Canterbury won the toss, but put Auckland in. Three wickets were down for 52 when a solid partnership between the union's national president, H. Barnes, and A. Porteous, who made S2 between them, improved the position. Auckland, after lunch, had only 45 minutes left to bat and hit out freely, reaching 223. Good bowling by J. Ellis and Woods made the Canterbury innings almost a procession. Barnes 65, and J. Ellis 61, were the chief contributors to Auckland's total, while Porteous 27, and Woods 26, also batted well. Canterbury was dismissed for 61 runs, J. Ellis taking five wickets fo* 22, and Woods four for 15.
