QUEEN CARNIVAL CONTEST
SIX CANDIDATES ARRANGED With candidates representing the Navy, Army, Air Force, nurses and transport, the Auckland R.S.A. has launched a queen carnival, which will extend until March 28. The objective is £30,000 to pay for the building recently purchased in High Street, alterations and furnishings. Two of the Services have chosen their candidate, and the others are in the process of making selections or conducting a preliminary campaign to decide who shall oarry the colours. The Navy has as its queen Leading-Wren Johnson, and the Air Force candidate is Waaf Elizabeth Wilson. The Army has four princesses, representing Papakura-Mangere camps, Territorial units, district headquarters and a coast artillery regiment, and from these four the queen will be elected at the conclusion of a. brief campaign. The nursing profession is conducting a similar contest between princesses representing the Auckland, Green Lane and St. Helens hospitals. The transport queen is to be selected during the week. Each of the sections being represented in the campaign has a number of interested organisations, which are supporting them in many ways. A variety of dances, demonstrations, displays and entertainments are being arranged by the various committees. The central committee is sponsoring a radio and stage quest, an art union, pinup man contest, mystery envelope and an all-Allied fair.
