DEFENDED DIVORCE
PLEA OP CONDONATION
An admission of misconduct with an American serviceman, but a defence that, on her confession, her husband had condoned the misconduct was pleaded by Laurel Mary Rhodes (Mr. Schramm), when Gordon Thomas Rhodes, builder (Mr. Jenkins), petitioned before Mr. Justice Callan to-day for divorce. The petitioner testified that the marriage took place in June, 1941, and there was one child. He left New Zealand in November 1942 with the 2nd N.Z.E.F. and returned on July 4, 1944. Respondent gave evidence that her misconduct had occurred once only, when she was intoxicated after a party. She confessed her condition to her husband on his return. He resumed the usual marital relations with her for some days, and then said he was going for a divorce.
Respondent,- in cross-examination, admitted acquaintance with other American servicemen, but denied misconduct on any but the one occasion stated. (Proceeding.) . • .... .
