CHEAP CABBAGES
TWO SHILLINGS A SACK Newton housewives received unexpected assistance in the building up of their week-end * vegetable supplies yesterday when a large lorry loaded with sacks of cabbages toured the district. The cabbages were disposed of at 2/ a sack, it being pointed out to purchasers that the sacks alone were worth 1/ apiece.
One housewife said she had only just ordered a single cabbage from her greengrocer, which had cost her 1/. Although her family would probably have a surfeit of cabbages by the end of a week, she had not missed the opportunity of securing two sacks of them.
Cabbages brought from 1/ to 5/ a sack at the city markets yesterday. Many retailers, it is stated, sell cabbages as close as .possible to the ceiling price fixed by the Price Tribunal.
