WEEK REVIEWED S SHARES LITTLE CHANGED.' | STATE LOANS NOW SCARCER ' Opening with a substantial list of sales on Monday, operations on the Auckland Stock Exchange tended to slow dowil during the week, and there were several dull calls, particularly early In the day. Investors continue to lie imbued with an atmosphere of uncertainty, and while>a wide range of issues enjoys a steady, demand there has been none of the- keen, zestful bidding which kept brokers on their toes in the first half of 1944. Apart from a few shares which had not been tested since market values were revised recently and some minor fluctuations, the tone remained unchanged this week. Sellers have been gradually disappearing from the gilt-edged division, and a definitely firmer, trend has been'evident. At the second call yesterday 15 separate issues of Government stocks were In demand, but only three sellers were quoted, a marked contrast to the position some weeks ago, when the Victory Loan campaign exercised a depressing influence. An unusual occurrence was absence in dealing in the 3 per cent Liberty Loan stock. No advice has yet been received by the Exchange concerning the listing of the Victory Loan, but early quotations are expected. In .the banking group there was considerable activity in Commercials of Australia at finning rates. Other "issues were steady with the exception of New Zealands, which were shaded to £2 4/6. Shares of the Auckland insurance companies were weaker. South British sold down to £3 16/0 and New Zealands were on offer yesterday at the late sale price, £4 8/. On the other hand, there unsupported buyers for Nationals, Queenslands and Standards. Among New Zealand securities Clanda Neons benefited from the dividend -announcement, as also did Milne and Choy.ce debenture stock, while forward movement\took place in K;D.V. Boxes, NsZ. Breweries and Reid Rubbers. Macky Logans 1 and Wilsons Cements, whieh had {been inactive for some - time,;, reflected "the downward trend",a few' "but the general undertone in tlnspection 'was'firm.
