NEW AWARD ISSUED
CARDBOARD BOX MAKERS
Small increase in the rates of pay for meat workers in the cardboard box, carton and paper bag makers' industry in the Northern and Wellington industrial districts are provided for in a new award issued by, the Court of Arbitration. The new rates of pay, which are retrospective to August 1 last, gave an increase of 2/6 a week in the wages of.certain specified adult workers, while other adults will receive an additional 1/11. No increases are provided for | in the case of adults whose duties consist of setting up machines for other employees. Increases for juniors up to the sixth six months of service ainount to 2/6 weekly, while those in the fourth and fifth years are 10-136; paid 7/6 and 10/ more. Female workers will be paid increases ranging from 1/ to 4/9 weekly- It is provided that no worker of 18 years shall be paid less than £1 12/ a week m the case of males, and £1 11/ f° r females. Hours in excess of 40 per week are to be paid at the rate of time and a half for the first'three houns and double rates after that.
