PREFERRED HORSE TO PEARL NECKLACE
AEOUT tv/enty years ago Mr. P. H. Osborne, an A.J.C. committeeman, offered to buy Mrs. Osborne a pearl necklace, states the Sydney Morning Herald.
Mrs. Osborne replied that she would rather have a horse, and the Tressady—Waianui filly, bought for 1000 guineas at the 1923 sales for her, was called Pearl Necklace. Pearl Necklace was a winner, and she established a family which has kept Mrs. Osborne's colours j>rominent since the mare was retired.
Pearl Necklace and most of her descendants have been trained by the Randwick trainer, B. R. Payten. With Prince, he has hopes of winning one of the important Randwick races.
Prince is a son of the imported horse Cheveley Lad, a son of Fairway,, brought from England by Mr. Osborne in 1937. but which died after only two seasons at the stud.
