WATER IN TE KUTI SHOPS
(0.C.) TE KUITI, Sunday. Serious flooding occurred in Te Kuiti about midday to-day. Heavy rain fell- during the morning, and 2.08 in was recorded between 7 a.m. and noon. The most serious flooding was caused by the King Street culvert, which proved inadequate to deal with the flow of water, which rose rapidly at 11.45 a.m. Water was lying in several streets up\to a depth of 3ft. It entered business premises and private dwellings.
Stock in the King Country Auctioneering Company's premises was damaged by water, which reached a depth of 2ft 6in, but more serious damage was averted by the removal of furniture. Cars and trucks in a garage owned by Mr. E. T. Tidd were damaged.
The King Street railway crossing was damaged and a repair gang was called out. Considerable damage was done to the main street and roads in the vicinity of the town. Several slips were reported.
