BABROW WINS

MEMBERS' MEMORIAL

WAIKATO HUNT MEETING

Babrow gave a pleasing performance to win the Members' Memorial Handicap at the Waikato Hunt meeting at Cambridge to-day. Moving through to head Gentry the turn, he carried on to win nicely. Billy Peach came home well for second, In front of Town Survey, which was suited by the conditions, with Betterman fourth and Royal Musk next. Harris Tweed weakened In the straight after being handy at the turn, as also did Gentry and Constitution, which dropped out-quickly once the pressure was applied.

In Three Divisions ; ' Landfall .was at odds of just over a score to win the first division of the Bardowie Handicap. He was always prominently placed, and after leading to the straight entrance from Ballynokane he stuck on to beat the latter by half a length.. Greek Boy was .right up third, with Murcurial fourth and Foxrose the handiest of a bunch.

Leigh Hark scored an overdue win in the second division, fighting on solidly to hold Convallaria to half a length, with Foxbun and the well-supported Princess Doria in that order. Rlverlands Roe ran a fair race to beat the others home, while Goldman was also in < the call. ■ Gaelic Salute and. Tflrzah made the pace over the deciding ■■; stages of the third division, the formeivcloing the better at the end to take a three-quarters of a length verdict. Brome finished on well for third in front of Jovial Hour, with Myain and Jovial Princess next. Ghevalits fell approaching the turn, and Bold Tide came down over him.

Performing Well , Jill, which has been performing well in the hunting field, won the Farmers' ■Steeplechase after being taken to tjie lead along the back the last time. Yank, which was favourite on the strength .of his recent Paeroa form, made a bold bid to wear down Jill in the closing stages, only to fail by a margin of three lengths. Kittle was always with the leaders, and battled on for third, while Dlnkum Pal was only a moderate fourth. Keopoa, of which good "things were anticipated, had every chance, but was never dant gerous over the last five furlongs. Ika Moana, too, failed to stay after having been one of the leaders for the greater part.

Hot Favourite Wins After moving through into a handy position over the deciding stages of the Hunters' Hurdles, the hot favourite, Ascot Bloom, came away to win the race decisively from Etaro, which had been one of the leaders practically throughout. Hackenschmidt finished well for third, but Diagonal weakened towards the end, as also did Extra and Sir Inness. Mimicry when in the lead 16st his rider at the fence leaving the straight.
