ARCTIC ADVANCE
RED ARMY CAPTURES
German Retreat From Finland May Be Cut Off
N.Z. >ress Association—Copyright Rec. 2 p.m; LONDON, Oct 22. A Soviet communique states that the Red Army continued its offensive from the Petsamo area, in Northern Finland, and reached the frontier of Russia and Norway, from the shore of the Barents Sea to Lake Heusjaervi and occupied nickel mines and seven other localities.
A Reuters correspondent, commenting on the Russian Arctic Army haying reached the Norwegian border, recalls that German commentators during the past few days have been referring to Red Army operations in that region, also that they have mentioned a German retreat and suggested that the port of Kirkenes was threatened. These statements indicated that the Rus-sians-were then operating in Arctic Norway. The British United Press comments that the Russian advance is likely to cut off the Germans' retreat from Northern Finland to Norway.
