DEADLY TYPHOONS

Attack On Heavily Defended Hun Headquarters

ROMMEL WAS A VICTIM

Rec. 12.30 p.m. RUGBY, Oct.. 22. The Typhoon squadron which killed Rommel took a prominent part today in the attack by R.A.F. fighterbombers on "a heavily-defended headquarters area" in Breskens pocket. They flew to an important road junction where, with an area of some 400 yards square, were buildings surrounded by barbed wire and defended positions. • The squadron dropped 16 5001b bombs, sending several building skywards. Fully a dozen bombs landed inside the wire and burst among the house and barns. Rhodesian Typhoons had previously dropped rockets in the area. Eight Tactical Air Force pilots, under Wing-Commander Johnnie Baldwin, D.5.0., D.F.C. and bar, killed Rommel, says the Daily Express. An official investigation coupled with a check of the pilots log books, has established that it was they who, on July 17, attacked a staff car corresponding to the description of Rommel's car in the a/ea where the Germans admit he was killed.
