CAULFIELD CUP
MELBOURNE, October 22. Coming with a paralysing run in the last half-furlong, Counsel won the 1944 Caulfield Cup on the second day of the Victoria Amateur Turf Club's spring meeting at Caulfield yesterday by a narrow margin from the topweight, Lawrence. The first and second ■ horses shared favouritism. Huntingdale, an outsider, was a cose third. Result:— CAULFIELD CUP of £6500 and War Bonds valued at £150, one mile and a half. —COUNSEL, 8.12 (A. Breasley), 1; LAWRENCE. 9.3 (W. Williamson), 2; HUNTINGDALE, 7.4 (A. Cowper), 3. Twenty-eight started. Neck; half a length. Time, 2.29V2.
