Coming with a paralysing run in the last half-furlong, Counsel won the 1944 Caulfield Cup on the second day of the Victoria Amateur Turf Club's spring meeting at Caulfield yesterday by a narrow margin from the topweight, Lawrence. The first and second ■ horses shared favouritism. Huntingdale, an outsider, was a cose third. Result:— CAULFIELD CUP of £6500 and War Bonds valued at £150, one mile and a half. —COUNSEL, 8.12 (A.
