VALUE OF FARM
APPEAL MADE BY VENDORS
PRODUCTIVITY QUESTION
An appeal against the decision of the North Auckland Land Sales Committee in fixing the basic value of 241 acres of freehold land oh the Kau-kapakapa-Waiwera road, in the Wainui district,- at £2450, was heard before Mr. Justice Finlay, Mr. W. Stewart and Mr. W. E. Scott, at a sitting of the Land Sales Court this morning. The appellants were Edgar George Mills and Arthur Earle Lawlor Dodd (Mr. Hubble), who, as executors and trustees, applied to the Land Sales Committee for consent to sell the property to Cedrick McLeod. Mr. Barnett appeared for the Crown. It was stated that the appellants agreed in writing last July to sell the property with live and dead stock for £4450. The Land Sales Committee, in fixing the basic value at £2450, held that the land was adaptable for settlement by a serviceman or two servicemen. The Crown valuer, George Orr, estimated the productive value of the land at £1355 and the chattels at £872, making a total of £2231. The assessment of a private valuer, William James Loughnan, was £4244 for the land and £1204 for the chattels, totalling £5448. After having heard evidence at length on the condition of the pasturage, which the Crown valuer considered had greatly deteriorated, the Court reserved decision.
