SOCCER CHAMPIONS

METRO BEATS ItOTOAVAKO After winning the Auckland Football Association's championship and the champion of champions contest, Metro-College added further honours to its credit by beating Rotowaro, South Auckland champion team, in a challenge match played at Blandford Park on Saturday. Metro won by four goals to one, after a wellcontested match in which there was little between the teams. The match was hardly up to the, standard earlier in the season, though it was a decided improvement on the play seen in the champion of champions contest the previous week. With only one loss recorded against it during the season, Rotowaro took its full share of attack in the first period, and play was fast and open. Two goals by Hope-Ede, centreforward, gave Metro the lead at halftime. The early portion of play after the change over was somewhat dull until Webber and Woods each added another goal. Towards the closing stages the visitors pressed hard, and reward came to Gill the centre-forward. The Rotowaro goalie Boyd, gave a good display and effected many good saves. Metro was strengthened by the inclusion of Massey and Green, of the Naval Depot, the latter going on at half-time to replace Phillips, W There S was little difference between Comrades and Hamilton Wanderers, which met in the second curtain-raiser. The visitors played good football and at halttime Comrades had a lead by the only goal scored. The game resulted in a win for Comrades by 3 goals (Masters 2 and McGee 1) to 1 (Learning). An earlier curtain-raiser between Eden, a second division team, and a Watersiders eleven resulted in a win for Eden by the thiee goals scored.
