SUCCESSFUL YEAR

AUCKLAND CLUB Regret that under present war and economic conditions tlie committee is still unable to proceed with a scheme of improvement, which includes the erection of a new stand for members, is expressed in the report to be presented at the annual meeting of members of the Auckland Racing Club on August 14. As soon as the opportunity; arises the committee will proceed with its scheme of proposed works. The season just closed was a most successful one, and for the nine days' racing £65,500 in prize money was distributed. An extra day's racing which was granted the club in aid of the National Patriotic Fund resulted in the fund being augmented by the sum of £8460, and the Dominion's Consolidated Fund to the extent of £11,807. Provision is made to meet taxation and certain contingencies, and a balance of £4678 has been set aside for distribution to war and patriotic purposes. Nominees for the offices of president and vice-president respectively are Mr. Oliver Nicholson and Dr. A. McGregor Grant, and for the three seats on the stewards, Messrs. M. J. Lynch, B. H. Nolan and Guy Ring, and they will be declared duly elected. B'or the five seats on the committee Messrs. M. M. Louisson, H. Morpeth, W. Claud Motion, M. M. McCallum and F. K. McKenzie (retiring members) have been nominated, also Messrs. A. J. Court and J. H. Jerrat, and as the nominations exceed the vacancies a ballot will be necessary.
