REFRESHER COURSES

EX-SOLDIER TEACHERS Provision has now been made for refresher courses for ex-soldier teachers, according to a memorandum received from the Department of Education at a meeting of the Auckland Education Board this morning. The memorandum stated that the courses might take any or all of the following forms:— Attendance at a training college for special lectures; empolyment as a supernumerary in a selected town school or well conducted sole charge school;, observing in any type of school where specialised teachers were employed. The Department stated that such courses should not extend for more than one term, and that soldierteachers would be entitled to receive permanent rates of salary while undergoing a course. Provision had also been made for the retention of war appointees while a permanent soldier-teacher was undergoing a refresher course. The chairman, Mr. W. J. Campbell, expressed appreciation that the Department had taken this action.
