AGGREGATE INCOME

Estimates of aggregate private income for 1942-43, and of aggregate salaries and wages for 1943-44, have been prepared by the Government Statistician based, as in recent years, on a consideration of receipts from the social security charge. All payments made in _ New Zealand to forces personnel are included in estimated salaries and wages, which, for 1943-44, total £177,300,000, compared with £154,700,000 in 1942-43, £132,500,000 in 1941-42, and £72,500,000 in 1935-30. Social security benefits and pensions in 1943-44 were £15,700,000, against £14,300,000 the previous year. „ The following figures are for 1042-40, with those for the preceding period in parentheses: Income of individuals other than salary and wages, £58,400,000 (£54,400,000); company income (including income tax payments), £30,000,000 (£31,000,000). Total aggregate private income for 1942-43 was £257,400,000, compared with £230,700,000 in 1941-42, and £124,600,000 in 1935-30. During 1942-43 60 per cent of the total income consisted of salaries and wages, 34.3 per cent comprised other income, including company income, and 5.6 per cent came from social security benefits, pensions, etc.
