AGENTS' COMMISSIONS
REQUEST TO GOVERNMENT
A request to the Government to pay to New Zealand agents the full amount of commissions collected in respect to imports is contained in a letter sent from the Bureau of Importers to the Minister of Supply, Mr. Sullivan. The letter places before the Minister, in the form of three questions, a legal opinion on the contract entered into between the New Zealand Supply Mission in Washington and the manufacturer or supplier in the United States or Canada, in regard to the payment of commissions to New Zealand agents. "Is the request for deduction of commissions from amount of manufacturer's invoice made for the purpose of conserving New Zealand dollar funds? Does the New Zealand Government, through its Supply Mission' in Washington, give an undertaking to the supplier or manufacturer that commissions so deducted will be paid in full to the New Zealand representative, subject only to any deduction which may be mutually agreed upon between the New Zealand agent and the Commissioner of Supply? Does the New Zealand .Government intend to honour the undertaking given in the form of contract with the manufacturer or supplier? The letter claims that each of the questions should be answered in the affirmative.
