MODERATE PRODUCE SUPPLIES Moderate supplies of green vegetables, such as celery, cauliflower and cabbage, were available at the city markets to-day. Pumpkins were still in over-supply. Hothouse tomatoes sold at good rates if of choice quality. Tree tomatoes were in shorter supply. Only best lines of New Zealand marmalade grapefruit realised ceiling prices, others (bringing relatively lower values. There was a good demand for choice quality passion fruit and Chinese gooseberries. Flowers were in moderate supply. Demand was good, and prices for most lines were high, except violets. Prices were:— Vegetables.—Beet, 2/ to 5/6 per doz. Celery, cooking, 9d to 1/6 per bundle; dessert, 2/6 to 7/6. Carrots, 2/ to 5/ per bag. Cauliflowers, 10/ to 20/ per sack. Cabbages, 6/ to 11/ per sack. Kumaras, 20/ to 27/ per cwt. Leeks, 1/ to 1/9 per bundle. Lettuce. 3/ to 25/ per case. Marrows. 3/ to 6/ per doz. Melons, Citrons, 3d to 1/ each. Onions, 18/ to 21/9 per cwt. Potatoes, southern. 12/ to 13/ per cwt. Pumpkins, extra choice Triumble, 12/ to 21/ per sack: Crown and medium lines, 2/6 to 8/. Parsnips, 22/ per cwt. Radish, 1/ to 2/ per doz. Rhubarb, 4/ to 8/ per doz. Spinach, 6/ to 11/ per case. Spring onions, 1/6 to 3/ per bundle. Swedes, 2/6 to 4/ per bag. Brussels sprouts, 7d to 1/1 per lb.
Fruit.—Tomatoes, hothouse. 1/6 to 3/3 per case. Tree tomatoes, new black, 16/ to 25/ per case; yellow, 16/ to 18/. Grapefruit. New Zealand marmalade, 12/6 to 17/6 per case. Lemons, Meyer, 6/ to 7/ per half case; 10/ to 11/ per three-quarter case. Chinese gooseberries. 16/ to 25/ per case. Passion fruit, 10/ to 30/ per case.
Poultry.—The supply was medium and the demand was fair. The prices were a shade lower all round. Selling rates were:—Cockerels: Heavy breeds, prime, 9/ to 11/ each: not prime, 5/ to 7/: light breeds, prime, 4/ to 6/6; not prime.
3/6 to hi. Hens: Heivy breeds, 6/ to 7/6; light breeds, 4/ ' > 5/. Pullets: Heavy breeds, best, 10/ to 12/: smaller, 5/ up: light breeds, best, 5/ to 6'6; smaller, 3/ up. Drakes: Young, prime, 4/ to 5/; smaller. 3/ up. Ducks: Young, 6/ to 7/; old, 4/6 to 5/6. Drakes, old, 4/ to 5/. Geese, 5/. Turkey hens, 10/. Gobblers, 15/.
