Temporary-Sergeant Leo Patrick Murphy, who has been awarded the British Empire Medal, is the son of Mr. P. J. Murphy, of 81, Islington Street, Heme Bay. He enlisted in the Second N.Z.E.F. in 1941. Shortly before the Third Division moved to a forward base he was transferred to a postal section. When the Field Post Office on Treasury Island was destroyed by an enemy bomb he was responsible for the salvage of a large quantity of mail and performed commendable service reorganising a new office. He is at present in New Caledonia.
