TWO COMPETITIONS
SENIOR LEAGUE TEAMS
SUGGESTION AT MEETING Playing of the second round in separate competitions was suggested at a meeting of the board of control of the Auckland Rugby League last evening. Mr. J. W. Watson, who presided, said that the matches next Saturday would conclude the first round of the senior championship. Mr. R. Doble said that a keen second round was assured, but there were some teams hopelessly out of the competition. Mr. J. Clark suggested that the senior officers' association should be consulted before any change was made. It was decided to defer the matter until after next Saturday's matches. The Referees' Association stated that advice had been received from the New Zealand Referees Association that it was intended to invite a referee from the West Coast to act in the curtain-raiser in the event of a West Coast team coming to Auckland. The association asked the Auckland League to approve of a West Coast referee being appointed. Mr Watson said that It would bring referees into touch with one another, and it would ko a long way to lift the standard of refereeing. It would be a means of improving the standard all round.
