FARMERS' PETROL
APPEAL TO AVOID WASTE
(0.C.) WANGANUI, this day. Although farmers' oil fuel licenses were not being reviewed at present with business licenses, they were being specially asked not to waste petrol in view of the existing shortage, and would not be given licenses to attend meetings of the Farmers' Union or other organisations in future. An intimation of this was given at the monthly meeting of the Wanganui District Council of Primary Production by the secretary and organiser, Mr. A. R. Donaldson, who is also a member of the Wanganui Oil Fuel Advisory Committee. Although farmers' licenses were net being touched, the oil fuel committee was aware that there were abuses in some cases, added Mr. Donaldson. For example, a petrol license might be granted for a tractor, but the fuel obtained used for other purposes. Primary production councils were being asked to report on petrol license applications from farmers, but whether that would operate successfully was another matter.
