COMMANDER'S VISIT
MAKING TOUR OF PACIFIC
In the course of a tour of the Pacific, Commander Warren H. Atherton, National Commander of the American Legion, arrived at Auckland yesterday. He was accomCaptain L. T. Johnson, L.S.N., Colonel W. H. Hipps, U.S.A., Lieutenant-Colonel W. J. Kelly! U-S.A. and Commander Lyon! U.o.iN .R.
Commander Atherton is touring rehabilitation and rest areas and forward bases of the American services. Prior to his arrival here he visited hospitals and other service installations in Espiritu Santos and New Caledonia.
He left for Wellington by train last night and attended the Memorial Day service in Wellington to-day, when all over the world Americans paid homage to the memory of comrades who died fighting for their country in this and earlier wars. Commander Atherton will return to Auckland on Thursday or Friday, and will later leave for Australia and island fronts prior to returning to the United States.
In the course of his tour he is urging upon all servicemen the need for exerting their influence to the utmost for the purpose of maintaining their alliance after the war to help keep world peace.
