RAILWAY BLOCKED
SLIPS NEAR TUNNELS WAIROA-NAPIER LINE (P.A.) GISBORNE, this day. As a result of heavy rain slips near three tunnels have blocked the railway between Wairoa and Napier and the line is expected to be out of commission for several days. Northbound passengers had to be held at Napier overnight. In the meantime the railcar service is operating on the Wairoa-Gisborne section, on which there were minor slips. • The Napier-WairdSi road is blocked and the Gisborne-Wairoa inland and coast roads are proving difficult for traffic.
