TWO OCCUPANTS ARRESTED
REMAND OF MAORIS
The sequel to a chase in the city last night by a police car and a collision between this car . and another in which were four Maoris, was the arrest of two of the occupants.
In Nelson Street last night at. 8.30 p.m., on special patrol duty, Detectives H. E. Wilson and I. Jones and Constable G. A. Lithgow saw four Maoris enter the vehicle and drive away. The police car followed, and at the intersection of Cook Street the car was swung round and driven back up Nelson Street and into Wellington Street. There was a slight collision when the police car drew alongside the other vehicle which continued into Hobson Street. There the two cars again collided, whereupon the four-Maoris left the car and made off. Later two Maoris were arrested, one in Hobson Street and the other in Pitt Street.
In the Police Court this morning, before Mr. J. Morling, S.M., two Maoris, David Peri (25) and Frank Heremia (19) were jointly charged with unlawfully converting to their own use a motor car valued at £365.
On the application of DetectiveSergeant Aplin the two accused were remanded to appear to-morrow morning.
