CORRESPONDENTS' VIEWS
labour nominations (To the Editor) In a report of a speech to the Hospital Board (Star, 23/5/44) Mr. J. Sayegh is credited with the following words: "Never again will the people I have served in the past say what I am to do." I do not think this statement is quite correct for the following reasons:—(l) That the people he served were the people in general who supported him at the polls in the past; (2) that' his nomination to the local L.R.C. for the election from branches of the Labour party support the above contention. Not the people he served, or the "file" of the Labour party, but the "rank" of the L.R.C. let him down. Is it not the truth to say that two resolutions passed by the L.R.C. prior to the ballot and sponsored by them let him down? I also was a victim, and perhaps if members of branches were to call for copies of these resolutions, and read their own constitution, section 15, rules 2, 1 and 6a, and then read in a union publication how the L.R.C. broke its own rules to suit itself, they would be helped in understanding the Sayegh case, and help to clean some of the mess inside. But Mr. Sayegh has no worries for the future; he still retains the respect of the people, and his own principles. ANOTHER L.P. MEMBER.
