GREAT NORTHERN TRIALS

DASHING JUMPING

VALANTUA - DIVIDEND

DOZIE BOY ALSO PLEASED

With the conditions ideal, a large crowd of spectators at Ellerslie this morning was treated to an excellent display of jumping by horses with engagements at the Great Northern meeting, which is to be opened on Saturday. The most impressive effort was given by Dividend (Williamson) and Valantua (Brown). The pair went a round of the steeplechase course and neither horse put a foot wrong. They were together practically all the way, and even though Dividend outjumped his companion at the first fence on the hill, they were soon together again.

Dozie Boy (Lynch) and Ivhurja (Lord) were sent over a round, and their effort was most satisfactory, both jumping well. Jehangir (Lord) and Cornaro (Lynch) also went over me mil and no fault could be found with their display, Jehangir going the better of the two. 1

There were seven in the next school— Gay Movie (Winder), Hackenschmidt (Cleaver), Forest Glen (Coon), Hessketoon (Melnally), Ika Moana (Collett), Lady Acushla (Sergeant) and Walwainui (Howard). They started by the sevenfurlong post and finished up over the double, stonewall and brush in the order given.

Over four hurdles on the course proper Besiege (Skiff ington) led Varuna (Brown) and Erndale (Ritchie), the trio taking the fences in their stride and finishing as named. Sund (Gregory) led Good Armour (McGill) and Antenor (Caughey) over the same fences. Transmitter (Brown) was also sent over four hurdles and he gave a satisfactory display. Classic (Pitman) went over the sod wall, double, a stone wall, and Valspear jumped several schooling hurdles in the centre. Cornwall Horses On the flat Indian Sport (Mudford) and British Mint (Bagby) were companions over a round, which they completed in 1.55 4-5. They ran the last seven in 1.34 3-5, and the final half mile in 53 l-ss. There was very little between them, but Indian Sport appeared to be doing the better. British Talent was sent a round in company with Our Gold, and they clocked 1.55 2-5, the last half mile taking 54 3-ss. There was nothing between them at the end. Salmi was too good for Kinsman over five furlongs, beating her companion by several lengths in 1.8, the last half mile taking 535, with Salmi easing up. The best half mile was credited to the stablemates Kronos and Kraal, the pair registering 50 3-ss, finishing together. Kronos has improved during the last couple of weeks. Kara Avis left the same distance behind in 51 2-ss. He is doing well, and will race on the second day. Sir Reynard finished well clear of Belle Renarde over a half mile in 525. The best five was credited to Yes Tor, which clocked 1.5 1-5, the last half mile 51 2-ss. She was nearly at top when she jumped off. Landveyor and Roman Duke shaped well over six furlongs, which they ran in 1.18 2-5, the first three in 38s, and it was a good trial for Roman Duke. Victory Song strode over a similar distance in 1.20, and Sir Dink beat Beau Coup in 1.21 2-5. Other gallops:— Three furlongs: Tiger Tan, 38 2-ss; Brome and Sir Isaac, 42 4-ss. Four furlongs: Dinky Di, 53 l-ss; Happy Vaals, 53 2-ss. .. c Five furlongs: Golden Pay, 1.6 4-5, Hard Rock and Lady's Pal, 1.8 3-5; Royal Gl S?x 'furlongs': Hunto beat Willow Wood, 1.21 3-5; Maori Sons, 1.20 1-5; Just Ora shaded Ra Ora and Ross, 1.21 2-5; Lightment and Victory Lass, 1.21 4-5. Seven furlongs: Feter Douglas, 1.40 3-5. Once round: Surpeen beat Nettanon, 2.5: Hasten, 2.3 3-5; Constitution, 1.57; Killfast beat Silver Glow, 2.10 2-5. Abbey Lu went very freely over a round which took 2.1 1-5, last half nu 'e In 56 l-ss. This horse has never looked better.
