EAR SACRIFICED
ACTION BY A MOTHER (0.C.) SYDNEY, May 16. Mrs. E. I. Johnson, of Dulwich Hill, has sacrificed an ear to cure a deficiency in her daughter, Dulcie. The daughter, now 14, was born without an ear.
The mother's ear was removed and grafted on to the daughter at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital on May 5. The daughter entered hospital in January.
This was for a preparatory operation to create a passage to the eardrum. . , Mrs. Johnson had her right ear removed four days after she was admitted to hospital. The daughter's hearing has always been normal. Mrs. Johnson said in hospital yesterday: "I let them transfer my ear to Dulcie's because her schoolmates teased her. I found she was becoming self-conscious about her disfigurement." . , , , . Mrs. Johnson said she was glad to make the sacrifice, as she felt it would make her daughter's life happier.
