KING HAROLD'S BRIDGE

An interesting structure known as King Harold's Bridge is situated at the back of Waltham Abbey, within a stone's throw of the spot where Harold Infelix is reputed to have been buried after the Battle of Hastings. The original crown is to be seen on the ancient bridge, and other portions have been strengthened in modern times. The story is that King Harold constructed the bridge to enable his army to march to the north to that victory over the Northern invaders which preceded the downfall at Hastings.
