CiSE OF WEROHIA

ON NEWTON REGISTER

The case of Werohia, a prominent South Auckland player, who signed for the Newton Club but wishes to play for the Manukau Club, was further discussed at a meeting of the Board of Control of the Auckland Rugby League last evening.

The chairman, Mr. J. A. Watson, said that an unfortunate position had arisen] and it was a pity the two clubs could not adjust the matter through the Senior Officers' Association. Werohia was a registered member of Newton, as he had signed for that club.

. Werohia, who attended the meeting, said that after playing once with Newton he had asked if he had an open transfer.

In reply to a question, Werohia said that it • was stated if Watene played fo? Newton Ririnui also would. He was definitely under the impression that Ririnui was going to play for Newton, and he wanted to play with him.

In reply to a statement that Newton wanted to get the services of Watene, the secretary of the Manukau Club, Mr. S. Walton, said there was no prospect of Manukau Club considering it.

. Mr. W. Mincham: The only thing we can do is to declare Werohia a member of the Newton Club, and he will have to remain with that iclub until he gets a transfer or a clearance. ROn the motion of Mr. Watson, it was decided to take no action.
