LEAGUE FOOTBALL

PLAYING OF WEROHIA

FINALITY NOT REACHED

The question as to what club W. L. Werohia, a prominent player from the South Auckland district, will be associated with was discussed at a meeting of the .«uCUiand Rugby League last evening, when Mr. J. W. Watson presided. Werohia has signed on with the Newton Club, which is now coached by the former Manukau player, S. Watene, but wishes to play for the Manukau Club. The player attended the meeting, and explained that when he signed on for Newton he understood he would be playing with Steve Watene and Peter Ririi nui, the latter being his uncle. He was later told that Ririnui would not be playing for Newton. '

In reply to a question, Werohia said that he realised he had signed for Newton, but wanted now to play in the same club as Ririnui.

Mr. Watson said that the clearance for the player from South Auckland came from one League to another League.

The chairman added that Werohia could play for Newton if he wanted to.

It was decided to ask the secretary of the Newton Club and Werohia to attend the next meeting of the board, when the position will be further discussed.

Werohia played for Manukau in the trial games and displayed brilliant form. At last week's meeting of the Auckland executive it was stated that his clearance had been received from South Auckland and he was then eligible to play for Newton. Werohia, however, did not turn out for • Newton last week, when the championship play commenced. Transfer of Players Transfer of the following players to senior clubs was approved: J. Matthews.
