FINANCING OF WAR
£5,000,000 IjOAN CLOSING (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Monday. The intention to close next Saturday the current war loan of £5,000,000, which has been open for subscription since October last, was announced to-night by the actingMinister of Finance, Mr. Sullivan. This loan, said the Minister, was part of the Budget programme for war finance for the current financial year, and was supplementary to the main loan of £35,000,000. The £5,000,000 loan had been on an "over co\mter" basis, thus supplying a continuous form of investment. The amount required was almost in sight, and it was hoped that before the closing date the full amount would have been received. So that an avenue of investment for war purposes would be open continuously, the system of advance subscriptions for the next war loan would be reinstated. Investments in the current issue up to the end of this week and in advance subscriptions as from Monday next could be made at any money order office or any trading bank, at the district Treasury offices in Auckland, Christchurch and, Dunedm, or direct with the Reserve Bank, which was handling both issues on behalf of the Government.
