REPORTS OF SPEECHES
SPACE IN NEWSPAPERS (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. . The use made by daily newspapers of the facilities afforded them in the Press gallery of the House of Representatives was involved in a question and the discussion it provoked in the House yesterday. The subject was raised in an urgent question put by the Chief Government Whip, Mr. Richards, on behalf of himself and four other Auckland members, concerning the relative amount of space given by the Auckland morning newspaper to reports of speeches made last week by the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Holland, and the Minister of Supply, Mr. Sullivan. Asked by the questioners if he would endeavour to have some remedy applied,
The Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, said the advisability of making representations to newspapers which appeared to show such marked discrimination in publishing reports of Parliamentary debates would be considered, as would also the question as to Avhether the facilities of the Press gallery, provided by Parliament for very capable representatives of the Press, were fully availed of by the newspapers represented.
