CLUBS AND SOCIETIES

National Party.—The annual meeting of the women's organisation of the National party was held in the Y.W.C.A. assembly hall, Dr. Hilda Northcroft presiding. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mrs. A. McCosh Clark; vicepresidents, Dr. Northcroft, Mrs. E. G. Bray, Mrs. C. Nathan, Mrs. Z. E. Williamson; secretary. Miss C. Pilkington; treasurer, Miss E. Ernest. In proposing a vote of thanks to the retiring president, Mrs. E. M. Gould spoke of the great work Dr. Northcroft has done for the National party throughout New Zealand.

New Women's Club.—The president, Mrs. J. P. Howden, presided at the weekly meeting when Captain Dalgleish spoke on "The Merchant Navy." Deploring the paucity of recognition of the merchant seamen's courage and fortitude, Captain Dalgleish said, "If merchant ships had failed the British Empire, we would have lost all we have and are—a fact that cannot be disputed." He concluded with the words of the poet: "They give, must we not repay?"
