DANGER REMOVED

CLIFF AT I-ADY'S BAY

Work is well under way on the repairing of the cliff path at the popular Lady's Bay Beach, near St. Helier's. For many years a danger to the hundreds who use the beach in the summer, the part of the cliff above the path has been trimmed off to minimise the risk of boulders becoming loosened and falling on to the path. The work was begun about a fortnight ago, and so far about eight feet of the batter on the cliff face has been removed. Because of the overhanging edge it was necessary for- workmen to be lowered on ropes to complete the trimming of the soft papa and sandstone to the path about 15ft below. Concrete steps were made on the upper part of the path some years ago, and a wooden fence was built. A similar fence is to be built to follow the rest of the path, which is to undergo extensive repairs. In the meantime bathers who use the beach in large numbers every day are obliged to use a small cliff path at the side of the monument at Achilles Point.
