America intends to invade Truk. This was disclosed by Rear-Admiral Edward Cochrane, Chief of the Bureau of Ships, in a testimony before the House of Representatives Appropriations Committee.

"Ship repair facilities," he said, "are necessary at Truk. where we are going in. Most will he needed before January 1, 1945." He added that Vice-Admiral Morel has declared that the Navy plans to develop Truk into the greatest naval base in the Pacific outside Pearl Harbour.

The Navy Secretary, Colonel Knox, told a Press conference that the American Fleet now consists of over 900 warships. "This does not include any small stuff," he added. Pre-war strength was 344 warships.
