DOMINION POLICY
IMPORTANCE OF NEW PACT
(By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter)
WELLINGTON, this day. "Lord Halifax, in his speech at Toronto, asked for a common foreign policy in the British Commonwealth of Nations, and I think the Aus-tralia-New Zealand agreement is the first step to the fulfilment of that" said Mr. Denham (Govt., Inverca'rgill) in the House of Representatives last night when discussing the Canberra pact. After referring ,to the criticism expressed by Sir Keith Murdoch, Australian newspaper proprietor and by Senator George McLeay Mr Denham declared that in his opinion the pact was an historic agreement Furthermore, he added, the British newspapers had received the agreement most favourably. The pact could be described as an important political development, and one which meant that for the first time New Zealand and Australia shared a clearly defined foreign policy.
