DIPHTHERIA IMMUNISATION DIPHTHERIA IMMUNISATION Parents who think of allowing their children to be "immunised" should bear in mind that IMMUNISATION DOES NOT PROTECT' NO GUARANTEE can be given that a child -will not afterwards have diphtheria. Returns given in British House of Commons, Nov. 4, 1943, show that 9000 children who had a full course of inoculations against diphtheria developed diphtheria during the past three and a half years. NO GUARANTEE can be given that the treatment will not upset the child or cause loss of life. Inoculations may cause severe "reactions," eg., encephalitis, septic rashes, paralysis, etc., while many deaths have been reported as a direct result of inoculations. No GUARANTEE can be given that the treatment wnl cause a decline in the cases of diphtheria. In war-time Germany and occupied countries, where immunisation has been compulsory, there has been an EPIDEMIC or diphtheria, whereas, in Sweden, where there ie NO IMMUNISATION, there is NO DIPHTHERIA. Dr. C. C. Okell, M.C., M.A., Sc.D., F.R.C.P., formerly on the staff of the Welcome Laboratories, where diphtheria prophylactics were first manufactured in England, and who knew as much as any man about them, called diphtheria immunisation "the arch stunt or the immuniser."
