"BY YOUR SIDE"
Canadians Hope To Fight With Anzacs In Pacific NEW ZEALAND AND SOCIALISM Rec. 10.30 a.m. OTTAWA, Jan. 13. "New Zealanders and Australians are hoping before the war ends that Canadians will be fighting alongside them in the Pacific," said Mr. Arthur Ford, president of the Canadian Press, and head of the delegation which visited New Zealand and Australia recently. "Canada cannot avoid her responsibilities in the Pacific now or after the war if she is to enjoy the goodwil of America, Australia and New Zealand, and if she is to share in future industrial and economic development," Mr. Ford said in the course of a speech.
"Some Canadians hold up New Zealand as an example of socialism while others criticise it," he added. "It all depends on thfe definition of socialism. If it is an advanced social security programme then I suppose New Zealand is socialistic, but if it is considered the socialisation of industry, New Zealand is not. Business men there are not worried and Government advocates say socialisation may not come for 50 to 75 years." " ,
