D.S.C. TO NAVAL OFFICER
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The Minister of Defence, Mr. P. Jones- has been advised by the Admiralty that the King has approved of the award of the Distinguished Service Cross to Tempo-rary-Lieutenant E. H. Lassen, R.N.Z.N.V.R., for good service with coastal forces. Lieutenant Lassen was born at Oxford, North Canterbury, in 1916, and joined the Royal New Zealand Navy as an ordinary seaman under scheme B in August, 1941. After undergoing training in the United Kingdom, he was promoted to Temporary-Sub-Lieutenant in September, 1942, and Temporary-Lieutenant a year later. Before entering the Navy he was in the Air Force for a short period.
