PROFOUND EFFECT ON KIEV FIGHTING
NEVAL OFFENSIVE Russians Threatening To Outflank Vitebsk N.Z. Press Association—Copyright Rec. 12.30 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 20. *The Russian break-through in the Neval area is likely to have a profound effect on the fighting in the Kiev bulge because the German communications and supply routes between the Kiev front and the north have been seriously endangered. General Bagramyan's attacking forces include Siberians, veterans from the battles of the Don, Moscow and Stalingrad, also crack ski detachments. The Germans were confident that the Russians could never penetrate the defence line south of Neval and had built Dutch ovens for cooking and furnished their dugouts with mirrors and armchairs, many of which they had removed from the Minsk Opera House. They had also laid down parquet floors in their officers' messes.
