"DASTARDLY ASSAULT"
WOMAN STRUCK ON HEAD (P.A.) DUNEDIN, Friday. A young woman, Miss Eileen Mary Taylor, who is employed as a tram conductor and resides at 56 Eglinton Road, Dunedin, was the victim of what the police describe as a "dastardly assault without apparent motive" at her home at 3.45 p.m. on Thursday. Miss Taylor was resting on her bed when she" was struck on the head with a bottle. She was alone in the house. When she recovered consciousness she was bleeding profusely from a cut on the back of her head. The lower portion of a broken beer bottle was found near the pillow.
The injured woman did not see or hear anyone, as she had fallen asleep Her mother had been out shopping and when she returned to the house she found her daughter in a dazed condition and unable to say what had happened. The police and an ambulance were summoned and Miss Taylor was taken to hospital, where it was found necessary to stitch the wound. The injury is not serious. .-Detectives, are inquiring into the matter.
