OPEN DAY HELD
RED CROSS OPERATIONS Representatives of 47 sub-centres in the district took part in the annual open day of the Auckland centre of the New Zealand Red Cross Society. The visitors had a full day, commencing with a visit to the transport corps rooms, where they saw the Red Cross mobile canteen and evinced much interest in the compact arrangement of the appointments. A call was made at the Red Cross Shop in High Street, which presented a busy scene for the next half hour. In the comforts depot there was an extensive exhibition of work done by the various sections of the comforts department, including the following sections: —Distressed civilians, surgical bandages, hospitaLcomforts, woollen comforts, baby's box, spinning, lambskin jerkins, sewing, primary schools' war effort. Short addresses were given by Sister M N. Collins and Miss Fanny Taylor, tutor and organiser, respectively, of the Tumor Red Cross department. In the voluntary aid detachment room they saw demonstrations of first aid and home nursing work given by voluntary aids.
