PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY

"Presbyterian Elder," in advocating financial aid by the Church for young people about to embark on married life, deserves fame, if only for the suggestion. It is to be hoped that _ Church leaders will seriously consider this proposition, and if, true to form, they condemn such a policy, at least their reasoning will interest me much. As I am only a young Church member myself, I do not wish to teach my elders, but I do know that there are hundreds of young men who would willingly and thankfully receive assistance from the Church. From Church membership viewpoint the scheme should find favour, for it is especially noticeable that the drift from Church, Bible class, etc., occurs within a few years after young people leave school, Avhich emphasises that when youth begins to meet trouble and gets no practical aid from the Church, it is Church membership that also suffers. Perhaps we will be tolcl to go and ask Mr. Nash, but it should be obvious after five years of social security that if the State aids the young it is at the expense of an already heavy burdened community, whereas the Church could easily arrange for only those interested to invest in a fund for the benefit of us, the Christian youth of the country, who Avould repay as quickly as possible all we received, and, furthermore, bless the nation with children brought *up without financial worries and in the bosom of Christ. N.Z. YOUTH.
