RAISED TO EMBASSIES
United States And Canadian Legations DOMINION PRECEDENT Rec. 11.30 a.m. OTTAWA, Npv. 11. The Canadian Legation in Washington and the United States Legation in Ottawa have been raised to the status of Embassies with the Ministers of the two countries elevated to ambassadorial rank. Canada thus becomes the first British Dominion to establish the highest diplomatic status in a foreign country, while the United States is the first nation to establish similar status in a British Dominion. The Canadian Prime Minister, Mr. Mackenzie King, in Ottawa, and the American Secretary of State, Mr Cordell Hull, in Washington, jointly made the following statement:—"The Governments of Canada and the United States announced that arrangements have been completed whereby the Legations of the two countries are elevated to Embassy rank. The change will become effective upon the presentation of letters of credence. The ties of friendship which have so long bound Canada and the United States are thus further cemented by this accord."
