LOSS TO LIFE-SAVING
i DEATH OF MR. G. E. BILLSOX (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. With the death of Mr. George E. Billson, life-saving in New Zealand has lost one of its most noted figures. Mr. Billson died in hospital yesterday. Only a few weeks ago his only son, on active service with the Royal New Zealand Air Force, was reported missing on air operations in the Pacific. Mr. Billson, who was aged 64, had been connected with the Royal LifeSaving Society for over 40 years. He was responsible for the formation of the New Zealand Council of the LifeSaving Society in 1912, and remained a member until his death. For several years he was president of the council, and, in 1936, while holding that office, was elected a vicepresident of the society, the highest honour that can be conferred.
