"TIME IS RIPE"
FOR INVASION OF BURMA
LONDON, Sept. 14.
"The time is ripe to invade Burma, and I should like to sell that idea to a lot of people," said Colonel Combs, commander of an American air task force in India, in a statement in New Delhi. He added: "Operations hitherto conducted against Japaneseoccupied Burma will show a dividend when we make a move."
"Yesterday R.A.F. Beaufighters successfully attacked railroad communications near Maungdaw, Burma," states an India communique. "Other patrols attacked sampans, sinking at least nine and damaging others. On the Mayu Peninsula, Hurricanes inflicted casualties on Japanese troops at Sinah. AH our planes returned. It is now known that in the dive-bomb-ing attack by Vengeances on Buthidaung on August 31, over 150 Japanese were killed and the attack on troop positions at Mundgdaw on August 30 was also very effective."
