CABBAGE NOW CHEAPER Cabbage, in good supply, brought lower rates at the city markets to-day, practically no lines reaching the maximum fixed price. Cauliflowers were in heavy supply,,with prices about the same. Pumpkins' were '■ again' a" glut-* on the market and hard to quit. Carrots and kumaras were in good ouaatity, and kumaras were plentiful with values lower. ■ A fairly good demand existed for local hothouse tomatoes and local sweet oranges, while there was a keen inquiry for tree tomatoes. Small grapefruit were not in good demand. Prices were:— Vegetables.—Beet, 4/ to 8/ per ease. Celery: Cooking, 1/6 to 2/6 per bundle; dessert, 3/ to 8/. Carrots, 3/ to 8/ per bag. Cauliflowers, 4/ to 7/6 per sack. Cabbages, 4/ to 10/6 per sack, 1 12/--to 21/ per cwt. Kumaras, 12/ to 24/ per cwt; Tauranga, 7/ to 10/6 per bag. Leeks, 6d to 1/6 per bundle. Lettuce, 3/ to 23/ per case. Onions, 18/ to 23/9 per cwt. Potatoes: Southern, 13/4*2 to 13/10 : ,2 per cwt; Ohakune, 14/6: new, 3d to 8d per lb. Pumpkins. 2/6 to 12/6 per sack. Parsnips, 16/ to 22/ per cwt. Radish, 1/6 to 2/6 per doz. Rhubarb, 7/ to 14/6 per doz. . Spinach, 7/ to 11/ per case. Spring Onions, 1/6 to 3/ per bundle. Swedes, 1/6 to 4/ per bag. Turnips, 8' to 12/ per cwt. Brussels Sprouts, 6d to 1/2 per lb. Fruit.—Tomatoes, Hothouse, 1/5 to 4/ per lb. Oranges, Local Sweet, 25/ to 54/ per bushel case;' 12/ to 24/ per Vz case. Tree Tomatoes:; New Black, 24/ to 28/ per case; yellow, . 18/ to 23/. Grapefruit: New Zealand,. 12/ to 18/ per case; small, 6/ to 10/. Lemons, Meyer, 6/ to 7/ per case. Poultry.—The supply was heavy and the demand was fair. The prices remained unchanged. Selling j rates were:—Cockerels: Heavy breeds, prime, 12/ to 15/ each; not prime, 7/6 to 10/6; light breeds, prime, 8/6 to 12/6; not prime, 6/. Fat Hens: Heavy breeds, 9/ to 11/ each; light breeds, 4/6 to 7/. Laying Hens, light breeds, 5/ to 10/ each. Pullets: Heavy breeds, best, 10/ to 12/ each;, smaller, 5/ up; light breeds, best, 8/6 to 10/; smaller, 5/ up. Drakes, young, prime, 7/ to 8/ each. Ducks: Young, 6/ to 10/ each; old, 5/ to 7/. Geese, 5/ to 6/ each. Turkey Hens, 10/ to 12/. Gobblers, 15/ to 20/. Cockerel Chicks: Heavy breeds, 2d each; light breeds, Id. . Eggs, Butter, Flowers.-—Eggs: Standard hen. 2/ a dczen; standard duck, I/O 1 /?. Farmers' butter, 1/5 to 1/B*2 per lb. Large quantities of lipwers met with a keen demand ana realised high prices for good quality blooms.
