MAORI MAID'S PRAYER FOR PEACE

As the fingers of sunlight Pierce the mist below, Brightening the Sea of Kiwa, "Bring forth peace, great god 10, Cried the Maori maiden of Ngatihotu. "O! mighty spirit, Tane, Of the green-clad forest land, Send out thy full and living strength To where our warriors stand." Across the Sea of Kiwa Glide whisp'ring ghosts from the north And soft through secret pathways, And from forest shades come forth Singing voices, growing ever nearer: "Peace there will be. Maori Maiden of Ngatihotu ! "
